The new is ahead! - our shorts that won the Gdynia festival

// 2025-09-03

How often do you watch short films at the cinema? They only need a few minutes to reach the viewer and linger in their memory for a long time. They're almost unavailable in traditional cinema distribution, available to watch almost only in festival programs. We want to change that!

WE INVITE YOU TO THE NEXT SHOWCASE OF "THE NEW IS AHEAD" SERIES!

September 9th (Tuesday), 6:00 PM, Kino Elektronik (Gen. Zajączka 7)

A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screening.

Every month, in Warsaw's Żoliborz district, at the iconic Kino Elektronik, the Warsaw Film School hosts short film screenings in the "THE NEW IS AHEAD!" series. We invite you to watch short fiction and documentaries produced by the Warsaw Film School, recognized at festivals in Poland and internationally.

This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia! To mark the occasion, we'll be screening three wonderful films that won prestigious awards in previous editions of the Gdynia short film competition. After the screening, we'll talk with the filmmakers about their creative journey after winning Poland's most prestigious short film award, their memories of making school films, and their plans for the future. What will you see on the screen?

"My Brother a Fisherman",
reż. Alicja Sokół

When their father disappears one day, the conflicting brothers must come closer by taking over the fishing duties in the port.

The film won the Lucjan Bokiniec Award for Best Film in the Short Film Competition at the 46th Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia in 2021. It also received the Heliograf Award for Best Cinematography for Kajetan Falkowski.

The visitor comes at a time when the protagonist is beginning to explore his sexuality. Kuba quickly faces a difficult choice.

The film won the Special Award in the Short Film Competition at the 46th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 2021. It also received the Golden Tadpole at the Camerimage Festival (award for cinematographer Max Bugajak).

"Charon"
